SMART MOBILITY INFORMATION SYSTEMS 6 Funkwerk develops and produces customised train destination displays, displays for railway under- passes, displays and monitor showcases for use in the railway sector with the quality feature of “Made in Germany”. Funkwerk also plans and designs special products, such as large LED walls for station halls or station forecourts, and manufactures or produces them to custom- er specifications in our production facility in Kölleda. 01 With innovative and future-proof technologies such as LED or TFT, a wide variety of products are designed in close cooper- ation with the customer. Furthermore, we understand the implementa- tion of the TSI-PRM, the European legal “Tech- nical Specifications for Interoperability relating to Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities and People with Reduced Mobility”, and consistently design our systems to be barrier-free. SMART MOBILITY PASSENGER INFORMATION (FIA) 8 Passenger information systems help travellers on the platform, at the stop or in the station to quickly find their way around and to be optimally prepared and up-to-date at all times: be it regarding the current train, any changes in the itinerary or the next train con- nections. 02 With the help of system architecture scalability, both nation- wide and regionally, clearly defined systems or stand-alone stations can be controlled. Real-time data is processed, ana- lysed and prepared in the system itself so that it can be suita- bly displayed on indicators, monitors or via apps. At the heart of the system is the analysis of the different inter- connected events, such as delays, train separation, carriage division or much more. Carriage status displays can also be visualised by the passenger information system. By automat- ing the processes, suitable solutions, including connections and run times, are calculated by the system. SMART MOBILITY TECHNICAL HANDLING AIDS (ETA) 9 03 For more than 20 years, video-based train dispatching systems have been used at German railway stations for safe self-handling by the train driver. One or more cameras are used to monitor areas of the platform that are difficult to see, and the video images are transmitted to screens that can be viewed by the driver from his stopping position. Due to new technical possibilities available today, the system was redesigned in 2018 as a flexible modular system based on cutting-edge digital video technology. The Funkwerk solution meets the high requirements for robustness placed on cam- era technology and system availability, as well as compliance with (and the self-testing of) low latency times of a maximum of 200ms for the transmission and display of real-time video images. The Funkwerk solution is rounded off by a modular display system that enables the display of up to four camera images per display, depending on the type of screen. SMART MOBILITY PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM 10 Effective passenger information requires fast, barri- er-free and up-to-date information on travel plans. This also includes the installation of high-quality public address systems to provide passengers acous- tically with the most important information, and to en- sure the safety of customers on the platform. 04 The Cura® system provides a compact and scalable IP public address system that combines the functions of an announcement device and a public address system in one unit. Cura® is, therefore, also suitable for use in other areas, such as prisons, public transport or industry. By integrating text-to-speech synthesis, acoustic information can be output automatically and on an event-related basis in several languages or voices. An equaliser – for which the parameters can be adjusted – is also available to refine the output quality. Existing systems can be integrated or Cura® can be connected to higher-level systems via various interfaces. SMART SECURITY STATIONARY & MOBILE VIDEO SURVEILLANCE 11 05 Arriving trains and underground trains pose the greatest threat to passengers waiting on the platform in public transport. Once a person has fallen into the track, there is usually little time to inform the driver and thus defuse the dangerous situation, especially on the underground. This can be remedied by video-based platform and track bed monitoring systems, such as video-based train dispatching systems for checking the boarding and alighting areas on the underground and the trains. Supported by intelligent video analysis, the staff in the control centre and on the trains are thus automatical- ly and immediately informed about the incident and measures can be initiated. 06 the In order to ensure fast and targeted action by the transport operators, transmission of high-quality live images from the interiors of undergrounds, trains or buses is a cen- tral component of a holistic security concept. Antennas on the roof and access points attached to the track forward the recorded video to the control centre in real-time via radio LAN (wireless LAN) or 5G. Even at very high speeds of up to 100 km/h, the interior monitoring thus enables the documentation of events and breaches of carriage rules, as well as prompt prosecution. SMART SECURITY PHYSICAL SECURITY INFORMATION MANAGEMENT 12 07 Communication and security technology, building au- tomation, energy and media supply – every system produces messages that have to be analysed and processed. This is where the Funkwerk building man- agement system comes into play: It integrates a wide range of functions into one system with a uniform user inter- face. Predefined workflows can be processed in a targeted, ordered and structured manner. In this way, risks are recog- nised in good time, processes can be optimised and possible dangers can be averted in good time. The system has a decentralised architecture that ensures a high degree of fail-safety and, at the same time, operates in a self-redundant manner. A simple and transparent licensing model ensures a scalable solution that can be expanded at any time. SMART MOBILITY SENSORS 13 08 Through the use of different sensors and with the help of artificial intelligence, various use cases can be im- plemented, especially in the railway environment, which help to optimise processes and reduce costs. Intelligent sensor technology on the platform with the Funkw- erk Sensor module takes place via an integrated single board computer, which evaluates the captured data “on-the-edge” with the help of artificial intelligence and triggers predefined actions in the device itself. At the same time, the module can forward the data to higher-level systems for further process- ing via a software-based interface using standard protocols. Due to the open architecture, further functions can be inte- grated at any time. USE CASES » Stand-by controller The Funkwerk Sensor Module auto- matically detects whether people are on the platform and can, for example, automatically switch off displays or switch them on again when people arrive. Depending on the size of the station, between 30 and 60 per cent of the energy costs can be saved. » Train control sensor The Funkwerk Sensor Module can detect the different train phases (e.g. “train arrives”, “train stops”, “train starts”, “train leaves station”) and forward these messages to the pas- senger information or control centre management for processing. This eliminates the need for additional and costly sensors that have to be installed individually on the platform.

SMART SECURITY DIGITAL TV SYSTEMS FOR RAILWAY CROSSINGS 14 09 Level crossings with full-scale barriers have been remotely monitored for dec- ades using analogue video security tech- nology from Funkwerk. The approach of a train switches on the video signals in a control centre: The video images of several level crossings are displayed centrally on individual monitors so that the track can be checked there by an opera- tor and the level crossing can be released for train traffic. In the context of the future digitalisation of railway applications, Funkwerk has developed a digital monitoring solution that meets the high require- ments of this safety-critical application. The de- cisive functionality of the Funkwerk solution, in addition to high system availability, is the inter- ference-free transmission of video images in re- al-time – and thus within 200ms from the IP cam- era to the digital monitor. COMMUNICATION VOICE & DATA RADIO 15 10 Train radio plays an important role in railway operations. It ensures communication between the mobile infra- structure in the train and on the tracks, and the sta- tionary infrastructure in control centres and stations – in short, train radio is an essential component for safety and efficiency in rail transport. The current GSM-R network standard will be replaced by FRMCS by 2035 FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communica- tion System). FRMCS will be based on 5G radio access tech- nology and, by separating the transmission system from the application, will set the course towards IP-based communi- cation and future viability. The exchange of voice and video, but especially data, is thus raised to a new level, offering potential for additional, digital applications and more efficient processes – starting with the automatic provisioning of trains through to highly automated travel.
